Serving Parents
We Are Here For You.
What You Need to Know.
How soon can I get help?
We will contact you right away. In many locations, we are able to find families within a few hours of your request.
Can I change my mind?
Of course! You have complete control and can change your mind at any time. You are not giving up any of your rights or power.
How frequently can I speak with or see my kids?
Our hope is that you will see your kids on a weekly basis. And daily calls are ideal. More frequent visits may be possible depending on how far away the Host Family lives. Because these families are volunteers, we want to ensure the arrangements are convenient for everyone involved.
Can my kids stay together?
Every effort will be made to keep your children together in the home of one Host Family. But this may not be possible because our volunteer Host Families cover the costs of caring for your children. There may be space and/or time constraints to taking more than one child at a time.
How will my child be taken care of?
We will do everything in our power to ensure your child’s daily routine is maintained. This includes your child’s schools and daycare. If arrangements cannot be made to maintain the same school, we’ll work with you make new arrangements. And Host Families will work with you to ensure your child is healthy and safe at all times.
Will someone check on my kids?
A Family Coach will be assigned to you and your children. They will visit them on a regular basis to make sure things are going well.
What kind of help should I expect?
our Family Coach is there to help you. He or she will talk with you to determine what goals you want to accomplish while your children are being hosted. They are able to connect you to helpful community agencies. The Family Coach can also introduce you to Family Friends, who are volunteers that support, encourage, and help you get back on your feet.
Can I meet the host family before my kids go?
Every effort will be made to have a formal introduction. This will depend on everyone’s availability and how urgent your needs may be.
Why are host families willing to help?
All families are volunteers, who are not paid for this service. Many Host Families open their homes because of their faith & belief in serving and loving others. Safe Families does not arrange adoptions and we are not a foster care or adoption service.
What is a typical host family like?
Host families come in all shapes and sizes. Many have children of their own. They have willing hearts and open homes. And they, along with other caring individuals, are here to care for your children while you get back on your feet.
Are host families licensed foster families?
Most Host Families are not licensed foster families, nor are they required to be. However, our Host Families are thoroughly screened (through background checks, interviews, home screenings, and references) before approval, similar to foster care families.
